Duck Duck Goose

So there has been an ongoing debate at our house regarding the "Duck Duck Goose/Duck Duck Gray Duck" game. My husband (a native Minnesotan) says it is gray duck. I (not a native Minnesotan - *GASP*, I know. Suppress your shock) say it is goose.

To support my side, I have to tell you that I've lived in at least six different states. The only state of those six that says this gray duck nonsense is Minnesota. My husband has good old-fashioned stubbornness on his side and he just figures if he says "Duck Duck Gray Duck" enough I'll give in. For the record? It's not working.

Today a friend posted on her Facebook profile that this subversive 'gray duck' talk is being taught in our schools. I am shocked and horrified. I immediately offered messages of support and encouragement to her. She has had talks with her little girl about the correct way to play this game - I just hope it's not too late for her and that the damage has not already been done.

So today I draw a line in the sand. No more of this 'gray duck' talk. It's only "Duck Duck Goose" from here on out. After all, if Google says it then it must be so...right?

Note the FIRST item that comes up when you search for that gray duck nonsense. I win.

WTH..... people, it's Duck Duck Gray Duck and I don't care what you say to try and convince me otherwise. Give us crazy native Minnesotans our simple provincialisms and back off. Sheesh.....

Thank you thank you thank you! It is goose ALL THE WAY. I mean really??? I'm on your side 110% in this one. I too have lived in a number of different states (CA, MA, NC, PA and now MN) and MN is the only one that seems to think that "goose" should be replaced with a "gray duck". As if!

I am, however, willing to consider a compromise: They can have their gray duck game, but they must agree that it is an entirely DIFFERENT game than "Duck duck goose". ;-)

It's goose everywhere but Minnesota. My first college roommate was from St. Paul and taught me about gray ducks and hotdish. Since then I have met many more Minnesotans and I get points with them because I know about the gray duck ... even if they're wrong the moment they leave state lines.

I'm from Wisconsin and until the poll appeared on Facebook a few days ago, I'd never even heard of gray duck!

Plus, it's politically incorrect - we shouldn't be making a stir about a duck's color. Therefore, GOOSE ALL THE WAY LOL

I don't know about your Google logic...when I type in "duck duck" "Duck Duck Grey Duck" comes up before "Duck Duck Goose". Grey ducker here!

I AM a born and bred native to MN and have ALWAYS said DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE! Maybe I was lucky to grow up close to other states that went with this line of thinking, but considerng those states are WI and IA, I don't think that's it.....

Jo, glad you won the arguement. I bet that doesn't happen much against B! ;)

Kellyn: I still love you too even though you are way wrong.

Liz: You are welcome.

Kate: My children will apparently be bi-lingual.

Abbey: I knew I loved you for a reason.

TWG. YES!!!

Mason's mom: YOU ARE SO RIGHT. YES!!!

Erin: I typed in "Duck Duck Gray Duck" and the first entry linked to the goose. That's all I'm sayin'.

Stephanie: See? I'm not the only one!!! And Brad doesn't think I won the argument. Not surprising.

I totally do not even comprehend. Gray duck? What? I have never in all my life heard that. And I was a Navy Brat. I've lived in 9 states and NEVER EVER EVER had I heard such nonsense. It's DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE. However, all this grey duck and goose business has me thinking of Grey Goose... the vodka. Maybe Minnesotans are on the verge of a great drinking game.

Nobody cares about some lonely goose, different colored ducks, way more fun. This from a born and raised MNsotan. Now I'm doing a poll on my FB, this could get ugly, lol.

Today is the first time in my life I have ever heard it called Gray Duck.

My friends kid plays it as Pac Pac Ghost.

Haha. I'm not from the US but I have only ever heard of Goose. Grey Duck doesn't even sound right.

Check out this poll on the matter.
