“Das Not Funny!” Friday: Inappropriate Language FTW!

It’s finally Friday! How many times this week did you hear or see something and think… “Das Not Funny!” but then realize that it actually was pretty funny? Well, such is the purpose of this blogapolooza known as Das Not Funny! Friday.

The Beaver Bunch had this to say about it: "Why “Das Not Funny!”? Because, our kids are forever making us laugh, usually unintentionally. As we attempt to stifle our laughter, Ashlee almost always looks at us, frowns and says Das not funny!"

Welcome to my first attempt at “Das Not Funny!” Friday. I'm trying it out this week to see how I like it and if I get good feedback I might even do it again!

This story is not from this week, but it is hilarious so I just had to share. I will start by apologizing to my youngest daughter, who just recently started reading my blog. She might make the “Das Not Funny!” face at me when she finds out that I shared her embarrassment with the internetz.

So, awhile back we went to Red Lobster for my oldest child's birthday. During the course of the meal, there was the usual back and forth banter between the two oldest (and at the time ONLY) siblings at the table. Laura (the oldest) loves to call Katy (who is her little...and I DO MEAN LITTLE sister, as in 25th percentile height and weight consistently) 'shrimp'. It's a term of endearment between the two and Katy does not usually mind being called a shrimp. However, that particular day, Katy must have been feeling rather sassy and/or fed up with the situation. When Laura (my above average in height child...she's already 5 ft. 9 in. tall) called Katy a shrimp, Katy fired back with "Oh yeah, well at least I'm not a WHALE".

Just about everyone at the table gasped "KATY!" I told her that she could NOT call her sister a whale and that when someone refers to someone as a whale it's generally a not at ALL nice way of saying that they are fat. Commence with the drama. Katy looked at me in horror, burst into tears and started sobbing...LOUDLY. She kept telling Laura that she just meant that she was BIG, like shrimp are little and whales are big. (Poor thing was just trying to think of the largest fish that she could.) We kept telling her it was ok, that we weren't mad, that LAURA was not mad, etc...

It probably didn't help much that we were crying because we were laughing so hard. Poor Katy.

We often use the word whale in conversation just to watch her make the “Das Not Funny!” face at us. She will most likely need psychiatric care when she gets older.

Okay folks, now it's your turn. Tell us all the funny things you did/saw/said or overheard this week. It doesn't have to pertain to children to qualify for “Das Not Funny!” Friday. All you need is a sense of humor and the ability to enter it onto your computer.

First, if you have a blog, simply write your own “Das Not Funny!” Friday post. Then, somewhere in your post link back to The Making of M.O.M. (Marvelous, Ordinary Miracles) via her MckLinky.

Oh, Katy! Thanks for SO proving this Mom's point that even though you kids don't find it funny, it still cracks your mom up.
