Proof That My Daughter Is The Smartest Person I Know

Today, Laura participated in the first round of the Regional Spelling Bee. 31 kids were in her group, with another 33 in the afternoon group. 6 kids from each group (total of 12) go to the Regional Finals, held on March 2nd. The overall winner from the final round goes to Washington DC in June for the Scripps National Spelling Bee (which is aired on ESPN).

(Laura and her dad waiting for the event to start. Yep, I know. He's pretty badass isn't he? Hehee.)

Laura being brilliant.

When all was said and done, Laura ended up in THIRD PLACE!!!! That means she'll be going to the Regional Finals with a shot at the National Spelling Bee!!! She did very well, and we are all very proud of her. (Plus now I can live vicariously through my kid...I was in the finals for the school spelling bee when I was a kid and messed up the word 'bicycle'. I still have nightmares about that one...)

Here is a shot of Laura and Brad and her trophies. She actually got three, one for participating, one for 3rd place and one that is to be on display at her school.

(Yep, I know. Brad is a blinker.)

Unfortunately, I was not in attendance. I was at home with Mr. Sickly Grumpypants.

Luckily, I was getting play-by-play texts from my darling husband so I knew what was going on pretty much the whole time. Between that and the pictures that Laura's step-mom (LOVE YOU STEPHIE!) and Brad took, I feel a little bit like I was a part of things. If you follow me on Twitter then you know this VERY well. Yeah...sorry about that. I got a little excited. Hehee.

'Tis the life of a mom...having to miss things that you don't want to miss sometimes. Jamie needed me and I got some good snuggles out of the deal. (He seems to be feeling better now but slept a LOT today and was not very active most of the day. He melted down around supper time, finally ate something and did a very very very yucky diaper so I'm guessing he's on the mend.) Cross your fingers for him please!

Oh...and cross your fingers for me that I don't have the spelling bee dream...again. *rolls eyes*

Yeahhh!!!!
How exciting for Laura and family!! Good job, Laura!!

Jamie looked so cute laying there. Is that why he was fussy last night? :)

I miss Jamie. I think he needs to have more pictures taken by Sunshine Mama. Yes, hope he's on the mend too.

She must be a very secure young lady to be in front of people with the pressure of trying to spell difficult words. Good for you and her.

Congrats on a super smart daughter. I hope your little one is feeling better.
Have a great weekend. Remember the grow and change and so do their troubles and getting into's. This too shall pass and then will be the next crisis. Just keep the lines of communications open. It will make all the difference in the world.
Have a blessed weekend.
